| Dallas, Texas native Donna Rose caught the Boppin Disease in the late seventies when she got turned on to the Cramps and the Panther Burns, two current groups that carried on the wilder and more primitive traditions of Rockabilly music. From there Donna worked her way backwards to the source of this sound, and when she heard the likes of The Phantom and Herbie Duncan, there was no turning back. She spent the better part of the eighties searching high and low for more of the same, the more frantic and hopped-up the better. In the mid- eighties her path crossed with that of an English record shop owner named Barney Koumis, and together they began tracking down some original Rockabilly artists from the Dallas area in the fifties. The fruits of their labor resulted in the fabulous Desperate Dallas Demos lp and in the exhumation of the rockin bones of one Ronnie Dawson, a BONE-ified legend who has gone on to a very successful revived career. Through Ronnie, Donna hooked up with another Dallasite Cowhide Cole who had a radio show on KNON-FM, the community radio station in town. Donna became a frequent guest on Cowhide's program and was soon asked to do her own show on alternating Tuesdays. The Rockabilly Revue has been very well received and was recently expanded to a two hour time slot. |
